Born in Manhatten, Riley Co., KS, passed away at Hutchison, KS Hospice House. Son of Thomas R. and Verna (Bell) Avers.Graduated from Manhatten, KS High School 1938. Attended Kansas State a couple years studying topographical engineering. Worked at Ft. Riley in building replacement when base was being constructed. He was a pilot US Army Air Corp and former owner of the Bootery in Hutchison, later worked real estate broker for Terry Messing Real Estate. The last 10 yrs he owned and operated Avers Real Estate in Hutchison. Member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and was specially active Special Olympics in Hutchison and was long time announcer for the National Junior College Basket Ball Tournaments. Married Lorraine Steele, December 27, 1942 at Tampa, FL., she survives. Other survivors include 3 sons Jim Avers and Judy of Wichita, Don Avers and wife Trudy of Riverside, CA,Bob Avers (Pam), 3 daughters, Debby Miller (Phil) Hutchison, Connie Avers of Valley Center, KS, Jan Connizo (Jim) Manhatten, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Burial at Memorial Park Cemetary Hutchison with full Military Honors.
