Served as a musician with the 28th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Enlisted 10 Jul 1861, discharged 23 Oct 1862 due to illness.

David Weisenborn was born as Johann David Weisenborn in Bischofroda, a village north-east of Eisenach, on 5 October 1829 and baptised there on 9 October, son of Georg Christoff Weisenborn and Eleonora Breitbart. He had at least 3 siblings: Susanne Marie, Johann Heinrich and Johann Nicolaus.
