SANDY RIDGE, NC ~ Kenith "Ken" Allen Brown, 77, of Troy Brown Road, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mr. Brown was born November 16, 1937 in Rockingham County to the late Troy William and Margaret Reid Brown.

He was retired from the United Sates Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer with 23 years of military service. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force prior to his naval service.

After retiring from the Navy, he served on-board Military Sealift Command ships (civilian manned) for 3 years. He was also retired from Stokes County Government.

Mr. Brown received the following Military decoration/awards: Navy Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Good Conduct Medal-4th Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Cold War Victory Commemorative Medal, U.S. Navy Commemorative Medal, Oversea Service Commemorative Medal, and U.S. Air Force Commemorative Medal.

Kenith graduated with highest honors from Rockingham Community College with an AAS degree in Business Administration. He was a continuous member of the Fleet Reserve Association since 1964 and served on the Board of Directors at Rota, Spain. He was a past commander of American Legion, Post 140, Sandy Ridge, N.C.; member of the Retired Governmental Employees Association; founding member of the U.S. Naval Memorial Foundation; researched, developed and maintained a web site honoring those from Stokes County who were killed in Action during all wars; was a member of Rockingham & Stokes County Genealogical Society; member of SAR (Sons of American Revolution); member Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church; past member of several Western Square Dance Clubs in the U.S. and Spain; Military historian for Stokes County.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret “Margo” Hearns Brown; son, Troy Brown (Renea); daughters, Ann Lash, Lynne Parr (Craig); grandchildren, Ray, Edward, Kenith, and Johanna; great-grandchildren, Owen, Madison, and Elijah; sisters, Kay, Kathy, and Karol.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2015, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel and other times at the residence.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., with full military honors, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the United Sates Navy Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 96570, Washington, DC 20077-7685.
