Edith Ferree Anthony of 8307 Lamor Road, East Lackawannock Township, (Mercer PA), passed away at 7 pm, Thursday, June 5, 2014, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township. She was 80. Her husband and family members was at her bedside.
Born July 12, 1933, on a dairy farm in Princeton, PA., Mrs. Anthony was a daughter of Lawrence and Edna Mae Shelar Ferree.
Edie was a 1951 graduate of New Castle High School, Pa.
Her husband, Gerald "Pete" Anthony, whom she married on Oct. 23, 1954, and with whom she was to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in October, survives at the residence.
After they married, she accompanied her military husband to many states including New Jersey, Ohio, New York, Wisconsin, Maryland, Washington DC, and Alabama, with the exception of a remote tour of duty in Korea and Vietnam.
She enjoyed traveling and camping in various state parks, and visiting friends. They enjoyed vacationing in Florida during the winter months. She was an avid reader.
Most of all, she enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
She was a very talented person who enjoyed crocheting and other crafts. She made afghans for each of her grandchildren that she gave to them on their 18th birthday.
She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Mercer, where she served as a deacon & elder.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Debbie) Shannon, Mercer, and Mrs. Bill (Sandi) Roberts, Meadville; a son Donald Anthony, Renfrew, PA; and a brother, William Ferree and his wife Marie, Newport, RI.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Captain Sean Roberts (USMC), Mrs. Nate (Lindsay Roberts) Peters, Mrs. Ben (Amanda Shannon) Arnhold, Craig Shannon, Brian Roberts, Lydia Anthony, Emma Anthony, and Isaac Anthony.
Memorial services were held at 3:30 pm, June 14, 2014, in Trinity Presbyterian Church, Mercer, with the Rev. Dr. William P. Crooks, pastor, officiating.
Internment: Mount Hermon Cemetery, Lawrence County, Pa.
