Today I would like us to remember Ivy Dowling, mother of June Spencer and Gail Dowling Goettelmann, their spouses Jack and Gary; also grandmother to Steven, Christine, Jack, Jeff and Maria; great grandmother to Jennifer, Violet and Nolan and aunt, cousin and friend to many people around the world. Ivy was also known to friends and family as Vee, Nana, Mummy and sometimes "The Queen." She was born in Cheshire, England, married Irishman Patrick Dowling, and emigrated from Ireland to the US with her husband and two daughters in 1958. Ivy was a loyal American and democrat throughout her long and healthy life of almost 98 years, but she retained her British accent, an interest in the monarchy and loved her afternoon cup of tea. She was an exceptional manager, meticulous accountant, gracious homemaker, gifted gardener, and lover of flowers, good music and travel. Blessed with stunning good looks, a keen sense of style, a sharp mind and English wit, Ivy developed numerous lasting friendships even during the final years of her life. She was genuinely interested in others, and enjoyed hearing about the daily life of everyone around her.
