Service: Corpl.— Res. Stoughton; painter; 36; enl. and must. June 26, 1861; wounded in action Sept. 17, 1862, at Antietam, Md.; transf. to V. R. C, Sept. or Oct., 1863; must, out June 25, 1864, as of 53d Co. 2d Battln. V.R. C. Transferred in Company 53rd, 2nd Battn Regiment RC on 01 October 1863 . Mustered out Company 53rd, 2nd Battn Regiment RC on 25 June 1864. Pension statement from Jonathan B. Whitman "the said Luther S. Bryant was in the line of his duty in the U.S. service at the battle of Fredericksbug Va Dec. 13th 1862 was injured in the hip during a charge while jumping across the rail road his foot slipped and he fell heavily on his right side thereby injuring his right hip badly, he also caught a sever cold caused by laying on the ground, which caused loss of voice". Born at North Bridgewater, Mass. September 24, 1824; died February 28, 1887. He married December 23. 1847 to Hannah F. Allen (d. 1880). He is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. (Govt.
