Paula Joy Pollock

DULUTH, Minn - Paula Joy Pollock, 59, of E. Fifth St., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center , Hospice Unit, after a five-and-a-half year battle with inflammatory beast cancer.

Paula was born in Olympia, Wash., on July 9, 1943, to Paula E. and Dollie E. (Johnson) Beers. Paula graduated from Ridgefield (Wash) High School, Washington State University, and did her graduate work at the University of Montana.

Paula was active in the Breast Cancer Society, breast cancer support groups, dragon boat races, Relay for Life. I Can Cope, Lake Superior Rose Society and breast cancer organizations including the Pink Ribbon. Paula was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, its quilting group, In-Stitches, where she made quilts for donation and she also made quilts for all of her family. Paula was also an active supporter of UMD Women's Hockey.

Paula was an inspiration to her family, friends and all who knew her. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Paula is preceded in death by her brother, Paul E. Beers, Jr., her father, Paul E. Beer, Sr. Surviving are her husband, James A. "Jim," who she married on July 24, 1971 at Pattee Canyon State Park in Montana., children, Miranda (Jonathan) Edel of Duluth, Andrew "Drew" (fiancé, JoAnn Stanley) of Mounds View and Brenna (fiancé, Aaron Nelson) Pollock of Duluth; grandchildren, Madison, Elyse, Zachary and Thomas, her mother, Dollie E. Beers of Ridgefield, Wash.; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Andrew and Elsie Pollock of Billings, sisters, Donna R. (Don) Roy of Vancouver, Wash., Laura L. Madison, of Vancouver, Wanda (Paul) Calderon of Mercer Island, Wash., and a brother, David E. (Cheryl) Beers of Ridgefield.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service on Saturday, April 12, in Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, in Forest Hill Cemetery.
