November 15, 1899, at age 27, Mary Estella Tanner married John F. Moore (1852-1902). He had been married twice before. His first wife, Lizzie Altha Smith Moore, was sister to Mary Harris Smith Tanner, who was Mary Estella Tanner's stepmother, and who brought her up from a very young age.
After the death of Stella's husband, John F. Moore, in 1902, Mary Estella "Stella" Tanner Moore moved with her own step daughter, Reba A. Moore, to Grants Pass, Oregon. There, in 1913, Stella married the widower John Elmer Day.
John and Stella had a daughter of their own together, Charlotte Elizabeth Day, born in 1915.
