The son of Jacob & Catherine Brandt, in 1860 he was a farmer living with his family in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Middletown August 6, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 12 as a private with Co. H, 127th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 29, 1863.

He married Lydia Hoffman and fathered Albert H. (b. 11/27/66), Henry H. "Harry" (b. 05/15/70), Christian H. (b. 05/30/73), Elizabeth H. "Lizzie" (b. 01/12/75 - married a Landis), and Lydia (b. ?). Lydia's status is unknown, but he married Clara lnu. and fathered Lulu (b. 08/??/96). Cause of his death is listed as "senile debility." A successful bottler and liquor dealer, he left an estate valued at $25,000.
