Fanny Dayton, 13, was the daughter of Dr. Jonathan Dayton and his wife, the former Keturah Miller. The young girl's gravestone was cut by the master craftsman Ebenezer Price of Elizabeth, NJ, whose name appears in the lower right hand corner of the stone. Gracefully carved floral and tulip motifs were characteristic of the work of Price and his apprentices, who were also known for finely wrought, bas-relief soul effigies. The use of the tulip motif in the tympanum instead of a soul effigy was usuallly reserved for the gravestones of girls and unmarried women.
