Henry was the son of James Bailey and Mary "Polly" Bailey. He married Martha Bailey.

"BAILEY, HENRY BUREN - Private, Company D, listed as Henry B. Bailey, enlisted on 8/21/1861 at Princeton, [West] Virginia - 1860 MCC, age 30, farmer, married to Martha, age 29. Son of James M. and Mary Bailey [daughter of Henry Bailey and Elizabeth Peters]. Married to Martha Bailey [daughter of Jonathan Bailey and Elizabeth Thompson] about 1855. Enlisted in 2nd Company H, 60th Virginia Infantry at Princeton, [West] Virginia on 3/31/1862. Enumerated on the 1880 Census of Mercer County, West Virginia, Beaver Pond District, age 52, farmer, married to Martha, age 48. UNDER CAR WHEELS - H. Buren Bailey Crushed to Death on Yard - One of the saddest accidents it has yet been the duty of the Telegraph to chronicle occurred on the yard shortly after ten o'clock yesterday morning as a result of which H. Buren Bailey, an aged and respected citizen of the county is dead. It seems Mr. Bailey, who resides on his farm, a few miles south of the city, attempted to cross the yard, and stepping from one track to another, in order to avoid an approaching train, got in front of and was struck by shifting engine No. 28. He was knocked down, his right arm was crushed off below the elbow and he was badly bruised about the head and face. He was immediately taken to the office of Dr. J. Francke Fox, the railway surgeon, and other physicians were called in. Dr. C.A. Easley assisted Dr. Thomas E. Perry and C.M. Scott dressed the wounds, and later Mr. Bailey was removed to his home near Beaver Pond. From the first, it was realized that Mr. Bailey's injuries would prove fatal owing to his advanced age, though a younger man might have possibly recovered. He regained consciousness and expressed himself as resigned to his fate. Four children who survive him were at his bedside when the end came about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. They were Mrs. Tuggle, Mrs. George Caldwell, Miss Moss Bailey and Clinton Bailey.

Mr. Bailey was aged 70 years and enjoyed the respect and esteem of the entire community. His is the fourth of his family to meet death on the rail, the others being Charlie Hale, and J.K.P and John Matt Bailey. A remarkable coincidence is that the last named Capt. John Matt Bailey - was killed almost in the same spot ten years ago, and on the same day of the month. The funeral will occur from his late residence at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon, and the interment will be made in the family plot at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
