Husband of Catherine T. Bailey, the daughter of George C. and Frances Bailey. They were married 28 July, 1859.

BAILEY, ERVIN (Irvin) HALL---Private, Company F, listed as Erven H. Bailey, enlisted on 8/22/1861 at A. Fleshman's---1860 MCC, age 25, farmer, married to Catherine, age 19. Born on 7/28/1834. Son of Jamison Bailey, Sr. and Elizabeth Bailey. Appears on the 3/28/1862 oath and roster of Captain Richard B. Foley's company of independent guerrilla soldiers known as the "Flat Top Copperheads". Mentioned in a letter written by his sister Louisa Bailey Thompson on April 20, 1862 to her husband, Gordon Thompson of the 60th Virginia Infantry. She says "R Irvin H. is in Capt Foleys Company furnished with a Mississippi rifle." Bailey enlisted on 6/20/1862 in Mercer County [West] Virginia in Company D, 17th Virginia Calvary. Deserted 11/15/1863, age 29. Took oath and sent north of the Ohio River. Enumerated on the 1880 Census of Mercer County, West Virginia, Rock District, age 46, farmer, married to Katherine T., age 39. Appears on the 1900 Mercer County Census, Rock District as "Irvin H. Bailey", age 65, born in July 1834, farmer, married to Catherine, age 56, married for 40 years. Enumerated on the 1910 Census of Mercer County, West Virginia, Thornhill District, age 75, farmer, married to Catherine, age 65, married for 50 years. Died on 6/26/1917. Buried in Scott Cook Cemetery in the Pinoak area, Mercer County, West Virginia.
