Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as the Major of the 7th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery in action on June 27, 1863 at Shelbyville, Tennessee. His citation reads "Led one of the most desperate and successful charges of the war". His Medal was awarded to him on June 14, 1894.
