William is the son of Colin Edson Brown and Mary Ellen Robinson, both formerly of Ontario, Canada before moving the family to Vancouver, BC

William joined the Service on January 31, 1916. He listed his occupation as a Barber.

According to the CEF Burial Registers, he was a Sargent at the time of his death.

"Killed in Action"

This non-commissioned officer was with the 16th Platoon who were giving cover to another Platoon who were crossing the Canel-de-L'Escaut at Valenciennes on Novemeber 1st, 1918. At about 2pm, he was hit by an Enemy fire and died instantly.
