Ray was the son of Nellie Ison Barnhart and Samuel Hunter. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1968. He then worked as a broadcast engineer with the Voice of America for the next 22 years.
Ray was a charter member of Engleside Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia and was involved in the missions program and a ministry to seniors in nursing homes. He enjoyed music and was talented in the guitar, harmonica, and Dobro. He enjoyed singing and composing his own music. He also worked with leather and was a private pilot at one time.
Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend and was dearly loved in return. He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Hunter, his mother, Nelly Ison, and his wife of 53 years, Barbara Hunter. He is survived by his two sons, David and Phil, his sister, Charlotte Franklin; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
