Western Law Officer. He was deputy sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona at Tombstone under Sheriff John Behan at the time of the OK Corral gunfight between the Earps and the Cowboys. He is considered by most historians to have been part of the anti-Earp faction and a friend of the Cowboys (i.e., outlaws). He wrote a book about his experiences called "Helldorado: Bringing the Law to the Mesquite," which was ghostwritten by William McLeod Raine. He later served as a deputy U.S. marshal, a surveyor, and was a detective for the Southern Pacific Railroad. In the 1993 hit movie "Tombstone," Breckinridge was memorably portrayed by actor Jason Priestly in a performance that echoed years of rumors that Breckinridge, who never married, was gay.
