Richard M. Mayes Sr., 83, of Farmington died Monday, March 14, 2011, at his home.
He was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Fayetteville to the late John and Kathryn Mayes.
He was the owner and operator of Richard Mayes Auto Service in Fayetteville. He enjoyed coaching Little League and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Dolores Mayes; and brother, John Mayes.
He is survived by three children, Richard "Rick" M. Mayes Jr. and wife Joyce of Fayetteville, Becky Silvis and husband Lonnie of Farmington, and Chuck Mayes and wife Tracie of Fayetteville; two siblings, Hallie Jean Culpepper and Bob J. Mayes; and grandchildren, Tracy Silvis, Todd Silvis, Meredith Brunen, Andrew John Mayes, Jamie Mayes, Jenna Mayes and Jodie Mayes. He is also survived by stepgrandchildren, Alex and Audrey Gaddy, Micah Chambers and Kira Hungate; and seven greatgrandchildren.
Visitation was Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Moore's Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Moore's Chapel. Burial was at highland cemetery.
Pallbearers Tracy Silvis, Todd Silvis, Andrew John Mayes, Kyle Brunen, Phil Boling and Alex Gaddy.
