John was the son of Mathias and Elizabeth Dague. He married Mrs. Jemima Strate (Strait) on April 30, 1812 in Franklin Co., OH. Their name has been recorded in various records as "Dague," "Tague," "Taig," "Tig," and "Dag." John came from Washington Co., PA to Franklin Co., OH with his parents and siblings and was on the 1825 Tax Roll as a farmer, along with brothers George and Daniel and Amasa Strait. On November 21, 1837, the Lima, OH Land Office recorded a cash sale by John for 80 acres in Section 26, Wilshire Township, Van Wert Co., OH. Evidently the family didn't move to Van Wert County until after 1840, because they still resided in Franklin County during that census year. John was in farming. He died of "Fever" after writing his will on August 9, 1869. It was case #1514, Van Wert Co., OH. He left everything to wife Jemima Dague.
