Edwin was a World War II Veteran, Pacific Theater, serving in the US Navy as a member of the 115th Naval Construction Battalion which was commended for their work on Luzon on emergency repairs and landing strips while exposed to Japanese shelling and air attacks.
After the war, he became secretary-treasurer of the Compton Construction Company in West Virginia. Then for many years, he worked in civil service as an inspector on the Panama Canal. After retiring from civil service, he was employed as a construction inspector for Gates Engineering of Beckley, WV. His second wife was Winifred Owens from London, England. They married on June 5, 1956 in Winchester, VA. Both became members of the Methodist Church in Lerona, WV, where they had built a retirement home.
