John Leith Foster of Cherry Hill, NJ, died October 15, 2016. He was 71. Beloved husband for 48 years to Maria Luisa Foster (nee Villacorta). Loving father of Joseph John Foster (Michelle) of Moorestown, NJ and Christopher Leith Foster (Michele) of Cherry Hill, NJ. Devoted grandfather of Michael, Nathaniel, Dalton, Brooke, Jacob, Devon, Gabriella, and Raphael. Dear brother of Randolph Foster (Julie) of Norfolk, VA and Elaine Goria of Geneva, NY.


John Leith graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1966 with a degree in Mathematics. In 1987, he earned a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.


He was commissioned an Ensign from NROTC Regular Program in June 1966 and was designated Naval Flight Officer in June 1967. He served two deployments during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Constellation operating in the Gulf of Tonkin and Korean waters. In June 1971, he joined the Naval Reserve at NAS Willow Grove and eventually assumed command of NR NAS Keflavik 0293. Captain Foster retired from the Navy in 2004 after 38 years of service. For service to his country Captain Foster was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, The Air Medal (4th Strike/flight awards), Air Force Expeditionary Medal (Korea), The Vietnam Service Medal, The Rep. of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device 1960 and the Rep. Vietnam AF Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross).


John Leith worked as a software engineer for RCA, GE, Martin Marietta and in 2008 retired after 36 years of service from Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, NJ.


During his retirement years, he enjoyed spending most of his time with his beloved grandchildren, and even enjoyed them more during the last six years of his life. He was a kind and gentle soul, showered everyone with joy and optimism, he will be missed by all those who love him.


Relatives and friends will gather Friday morning 9 to 10:45am in Christ Our Light RC Church 402 N. Kings Highway, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 11am. Inurnment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ. In lieu of flowers contributions in Leith's memory may be made to Christ Our Light RC Church 402 N. Kings Highway, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
