Born Dec. 17, 1909, in Tipton, Kan., to Katherine and Max Arnoldy, Sr. Catherine was one of 11 children. The family moved to California, where Sr. Catherine graduated from Notre Dame High School, Marysville. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in Belmont, attended Holy Names College, San Jose State, Lone Mountain, and received her M.A. from U.S.F.
Sr. Catherine was known for her generous spirit, positive attitude, and exemplary classroom skills. She served as teacher and administrator in Notre Dame elementary and secondary schools in Alameda, Chico, Portland, Redwood City, Sacramento, and Salinas. Many of her former students still comment on the profound difference she made in their lives.
Upon retiring in 1976, Sister volunteered her services in the Attendance/Resource Center at Notre Dame High School, Belmont where she treated students with fairness and personal care, mastered the computer, and enjoyed attending occasional 49'er games, even meeting her favorite player, Jerry Rice.
Sr. Catherine happily spent her last decade at Holy Names Convent in Los Gatos, praying daily for her family, friends, former students, and the Notre Dame de Namur community, all of whom remember her lovingly.
Mass of the Resurrection: 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at Holy Names Convent, Los Gatos, and at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at the Notre Dame Province Center in Belmont.
Committal service: Following mass, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
Memorials: Contributions may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 1520 Ralston Ave., Belmont, Calif. or online via www.snddenCA.org.
