Married in 1859 to Julia Ann Newman; two sons - James Henry Dunlap and David Isaiah Dunlap. Known as Smith Dunlap, he served in 33rd Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry, Company I, with the rank of Private. Wounded and taken prisoner at the Battle of Jenkin's Ferry on April 30, 1864. Died of wounds at Princeton, Arkansas on June 4, 1864. Based on the brochure at this cemetery and pages from a book provided at the cemetery office, I am assuming that my great-grandfather's remains were among those taken from Princeton, Arkansas, to this national cemetery in 1868.
