Elizabeth's mysterious death was first suspected as a homicide. 3 neighbors were arrested pending the autopsy results, which later showed that she passed away from "natural causes". All charges against her neighbors were later dropped.
I personally find it hard to believe that "natural causes" is what killed my 3rd Great Grandmother, Elizabeth. She was reported to have black eyes, bruising & a skull fracture. The woman obviously suffered a terrible beating either by those 2 women or my 3rd Great Grandfather, Charles. Someone was definitely lying. Her death certificate lists cause of death as "Chronic Alcoholism", hardly natural causes if you ask me. I truly believe that Elizabeth was murdered & someone got away with it. I always wondered how her death affected their daughter, my 2nd Great Grandmother, Emma. She was only 9 years old when her Mother died.
