Richard A. Hestbeck passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at age 59. He was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., and moved to St. Augustine in his junior year of high school. He loved the beach and became an avid surfer. In 1967 He graduated from St. Augustine High School then St. Johns River Junior College in 1969. He loved music, and while at college played guitar in a local band, The Lighthouse Ramblers. His long-time friend the late Clay Stratton was in the band too. Richard married Dana Vaughan then moved to Colorado, where they lived for six years before relocating to Connecticut. He was employed by General Electric for 25 years as a project. In 2001, he retired to St. Augustine in 2001 to enjoyed the beach and his lifelong passion for motorcycling.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Johns Family Funeral Home, with The Rev. Craig Eby, officiating. Donations in his memory can be made to American Cancer Society, St. Johns County Unit, 2850 Isabella Blvd., No. 20, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.

"Dick" is survived by his daughter, Amie Hestbeck Glick of Massachusetts; a son, Adam Hestbeck of Colorado; a brother, John Hestbeck of St. Augustine; several nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and loved ones, and a special friend, Nancy McShane of St. Augustine.
