Donald Robert Hooker , 59, passed away at North Florida Regional Hospital on Friday, June 13, 2008, following a long illness. Don was born July 22, 1948, in Fort Bliss, Texas, to Master Sgt. James C Hooker . Sr and Eddie Lou Norton Hooker . As an "Army brat," he lived in many places, including Japan and Cape Cod, Mass. Following graduation from St. Augustine High School in 1967, Don worked as a diver and announcer at Marineland before studying history and public relations at Flagler College and the University of North Florida. Utilizing his love for history and gift for storytelling, he worked as a park ranger for the National Park Service specializing in living history programs, historical interpretations and resource management. Don moved back to St. Augustine in 1988 to be closer to family and worked as a guide at the St. Augustine Lighthouse. In 1994, Don moved to Trenton, Fla., where he worked as a correctional officer for Lancaster C.I., and later for the Levy Co. Sheriff's Office. "Hooker" as he was known, loved people and a good joke as well as anyone. He shared his love freely with his family, friends and favorite waitresses at the local restaurants. He is survived by his brothers, Jim Hooker , of Trenton, and Ronny Hooker , of St. Augustine; two sisters-in-law; two aunts; five cousins; two nieces; three nephews; and eleven great-nieces and great-nephews. Don has requested that there be no services but he can be remembered with a lot of laughter and by tipping your favorite waitress well.
