Ronald L. Holmberg, age 74, of 322 Dewey Circle, Ridgway, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at UPMC Hamot in Erie following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 17, 1938 in Ridgway, son of the late Clarence J. and Hazel B. (Dunkle) Holmberg.
He married Nancy H. Peterson on Nov. 7, 1959; she survives.
He had resided in Ridgway all of his life and was a 1956 graduate of the Ridgway High School. He was a member of the Ridgway Church of Christ where he was a Deacon, a past member of the Ridgway Borough Council for eight years and was a past President of the Borough Council. He also served as the area President of the Borough Association, a past member of the Elk County Planning Board and the Stackpole-Hall Foundation, and a member of the Moose Club.
He served in the U.S. Marines and was a peacetime veteran. He had been employed by the Ridgway Borough, retiring in 2000, and had also been the Borough Code Enforcer for the past year. Ron had delivered the Bradford Era for 33 years in Johnsonburg and St. Marys.
Ron was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and had enjoyed playing golf since his retirement.
Surviving, besides his wife, are the following children: Renee L. Morales and her husband Jose of Sicklerville, N.J., Brian L. Holmberg and his wife Bernadette of Grafton, W. Va., Sherry L. Wall and her husband Donald of Ridgway, and Eric L. Holmberg and his wife Jodie of Smethport; 10 grandchildren, Teala Holmberg, Jose and Christopher Morales, Nathan, Kylee, and Hunter Wall, and Owen, Macy, Mya and Grant Holmberg; one sister, Arveta Carson of Ridgway; two brothers, Merle Holmberg of Meadville and Gayle Holmberg of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Bradley Holmberg; and one brother, Clarence Holmberg.
Funeral services for Ronald L. Holmberg will be held at the Ridgway Church of Christ on Friday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m., with military honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Detail. Officiating will be James Kitelinger, minister of the Ridgway Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
