Bert's death is actually 3 Nov. 1902 instead of 8 Nov. as stated on his marker. He was killed by U.S. Marshals at Cleo Springs, IT. He is buried in Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Logan County, Oklahoma.

Bandits Dead: Guthrie, Okla., Nov.3- This afternoon near Cleo Springs, Woods County, Oklahoma, occurred the deaths of Bert Casey,the king of Southwestern outlaws, and one of his chief lieutenants, Jim Sims, both being killed by United States Deputy Marshals in a desperate battle.

On January 15, 1902, Caddo County Sheriff Frank Smith and his deputy, George Beck, were murdered eight miles west of Anadarko, OT by the Bert Casey gang. Sheriff Smith was shot through the chest and died within minutes, where as Deputy Beck was shot in the chest and left arm, shattering it. Beck died instantly and Smith died within minutes. The killers then robbed the victims of their personal possessions. The posse trailed the killers in the snow, and eventually overcame the outlaws. One outlaw, Swofford (sic), was killed and two others, Sam Casey and Bill Watson were captured near Wewoka, Indian Territory. The gang, made up of a number of notorious outlaws, was wanted for horse stealing.

On June 30, 1902, Sheriff Andrew Jackson Bullard of Roger Mills County, Oklahoma and his deputy, John Cogburn were investigating reports of stolen cattle and horses. After all was said and done, about eight miles north of the town of Cheyenne, the sheriff and his deputy were dead. The suspects, Pete Whitehead and Sam Green, were known members of the Bert Casey gang.

Remains of Noted Outlaw Interred in the Summit View Cemetery
The body of Bert Casey, the outlaw who was killed by Marshal Hudson, near Cleo Springs last Monday, was today buried in Summit View cemetery. The body has been lying at the Patterson undertaking establishment since Tuesday, with the hope of ate dead man's friends claiming the body was fully identified the government this afternoon bore the expense of the burial.
