Born in Annandale, Sydney, the youngest of three children, Paul Hanbridge was raised in Leichhardt where he frequented the Lower Primary of St. Columba's and the Josephite Sisters. Pursuing his studies under the Christian Brothers, first in Balmain and then at St. Mary's Cathedral, he entered the Franciscan Capuchin Order in 1972, professing his first vows in 1974. Ordained to the priesthood in 1979, he formed part of the fraternities of Leichhardt, Wynnum, Plumpton, the Hermitage in Murrurundi (presently closed), and in the General Curia in Rome.
Itinerant presbyter with the Neocatechumenate, postulant director, and archivist and vicar in the General Curia in Rome, he suffered from terminal prostrate cancer in his last years, eventually succumbing in early hours of Monday, January 19, 2015 at 62 years of age.
Funeral Mass was held the following Friday at St. Fiacre's Church, Leichhardt, at 10.30 hrs., followed by interment at the Capuchin Section of Rookwood Cemetery.
