Born in Annonay, France, on January 26, 1841, to Jean Joseph Chalandard and Jeanne Marie Marguerite Magnard, Father Pierre Chalandard was educated at the College d'Annonay, pronounced his final vows with the Basilian Fathers on September 23, 1864, and was ordained to the priesthood on September 21, 1867.
Early in 1868, Father Chalandard left France to St. Michael's College, Toronto, Ontario, where he at once took charge of the college band. In 1870 he was appointed assistant at St. Mary's of the Assumption Parish in Owen Sound. Ontario. Two years later he returned to St. Michael's College and taught elementary Latin until 1889, when he became treasurer. In 1891, he was transferred to Assumption parish in Windsor where he served as assistant until his death on October 29, 1915. He was buried in the Basilian plot at the Assumption Cemetery of Windsor.

He also directed the choir of St. Basil's Church and later that at Assumption parish. Miss Hoskin wrote in her history of St. Basil's parish, "Sunday after Sunday for twenty years or more his fine bass voice led the chant in the sanctuary and the singing in the choir. With untiring zeal he would go from sanctuary to choir and back several times during the services."
