The First Bishop of the Diocese of Porto Nacional, Dom Frei Domingos Raimundo Carrerot was born in Pamiers, France, and was ordained to the priesthood through the Order of Preachers at 23 years of age September 1, 1886, after completing his studies at Salamanca, Spain, following the suppression of religious houses in France in 1880.

Moving to Brazil as a missionary soon after, he worked across various northern regions among the natives. At 49 years of age he was appointed the First Prelate of the Territorial Prelature of Santíssima Conceição do Araguaia, presently the Diocese of Marabá, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Verinopolis from Archbishop Jean-Augustin Germain, assisted by Bishop Charles-Paul Sagot du Vauroux and Archbishop Martin-Jérôme Izart on October 10, 1912, at the Cathedral of Toulouse, France.

Appointed the First Ordinary of the Diocese of Porto Nacional, in the present state of Tocantins, on July 30, 1920, Dom Domingos died in office on December 14, 1933, aged 70, and was laid to rest inside the cathedral of his see.
