Roman Catholic Cardinal. Born in Le Bourg-d'Ire in the castle of his noble family, Frédéric de Falloux du Coudray was the son of a count and a marchioness. Receiving his education in Angers, Paris and Rome, he was ordained priest in 1837. Obtaining a canonry, on July 12 of the following year he was named referendary prelate. Relator of the Sacred Congregation of Good Government between 1839 and 1847, he was named dean of the relator prelates in 1845. Moving to Gaeta along with Pope Pius IX when the latter had to flee Rome, in the years which followed he was named canon of the chapter of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica in 1849, secretary of the Sacred Congregation of the Discipline of the Regulars in 1851, prelate adjunct of the Sacred Congregation of the Tridentine Council in 1852 and 'abbreviatore' of the Parco Maggiore in 1853. Regent of the Apostolic Chancery from 1861 till 1877 and auditor of the Sacred Roman Rota, the named Pope created him cardinal deacon in the consistory of March 12, 1877 with the deaconry of Sant'Agata alla Suburra. Moving to Tivoli due to health reasons, the Cardinal passed away there and was laid to rest in the local cemetery, where his vault survives to this day in oblivion.
