In 1929 he was admitted to Nazareth. During the war years, he returned to Indo-China to share in the labours and dangers of his old mission.
At the end of the war he returned to Hong Kong where he led a life of serene, prayerful retirement till his death, which occurred at St. Paul's Hospital, Causeway Bay, on November 7, 1957, at 84 years of age.
He was buried at the Bethany Cemetery on the following day. Monsignor Lorenzo Bianchi PIME., Bishop of Hong Kong pronounced the last blessing in the presence of all the Hong Kong Fathers of the Foreign Missions and the former staff of Nazareth Press.
