Michael Ajello was born in Brooklyn and attended the Scholasticate at Glenclyffe. He possessed a childlike innocence, took his studies very seriously and was well-liked by everyone for his good natured disposition. When he entered the novitiate, he received the named Felician. Shortly after Easter during the novitiate year, he contracted an infectious form of tuberculosis and had to leave the novitiate.

Even in the sanatorium, with no hope of recovery, Michael wanted to get well in order to finish his novitiate. When asked if he was satisfied with God's will no matter what, he responded: "Sure, whatever God wants". All he asked above this was permission to die in the habit. Friar Benedict Mueller, at the time Definitor Provincial, allowed him to make a deathbed profession. Despite a temporary improvement, Felician succumbed to this disease five months later on January 27, 1936, aged only 18, and was buried clad in his Capuchin habit.
