Normandy born Father Louis Ango des Maizerets came from a noble family. Ordained priest in 1662, he moved to New France the following year in order to join the Séminaire de Québec, then recruiting clergy to serve the colonists. Becoming the first archdeacon of the cathedral chapter of Québec upon its formation, he served as vicar general of the archdiocese during the tenure of Bishop François de Laval.
