Baptized in Repentigny, Lanaudière, Québec, on April 23, 1681, Michel entered the Petit Séminaire in 1688. Tonsured in 1697, he left in 1699 for the missions of the seminary in the country of the Tamarois, then the Natchez and the Arkansas. He then returned to Québec in 1703. He was ordained a priest on April 27, 1704 and served as parish priest of Saint-François-de-Sales of the I'île Jésus from 1704 till 1710, and of Sainte-Foy in 1711. He died February 18, 1712 and was buried in the Cathedral of Québec. He was remarkable for his ease in learning the wild languages of the Mississippi.

He was the brother of Jean-François Buisson de Saint-Cosme, ordained in 1690, who had preceded him for a year at the missions.
