Former Bishop of the Diocese of Saint-Louis du Sénégal, Monsignor Pierre Sagna C.S.Sp., was born on July 11, 1932, in Ziguinchor and was ordained to the priesthood at the age of 27, through the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. Aged 42, on December 19, 1974, he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Saint-Louis du Sénégal, receiving his episcopal consecration on May 11, 1975, from Bishop Augustin Sagna assisted by Msgr. Théodore-Adrien Sarr and Bishop Michael Joseph Moloney C.S.Sp.

The Bishop resigned his ministry at the age of 70, on February 22, 2003, and chose to spend his retirement years in Gambia, where he resided at Holy Cross church, Brusubi. He passed away at the age of 75, on Saturday, May 24, 2008. On Monday, June 2, his remains where exposed inside the Holy Cross church of Brusubi and later in Dakar's Cathedral, where funeral Mass was celebrated at 12.30 pm. Immediately afterwards, he was transferred to the Cathedral of St. Louise, where interment took place on the following day, led by the Bishop of Banjul, Msgr. Robert P. Ellison C.S.Sp.
