The First Bishop of the Diocese of Kaya, Burkina Faso, Monsignor Constantin Guirma was born on February 5, 1920, in Kaya, one of eleven children born to an infirmarian and his wife. A brother and a sister of his also entered religion.

Ordained to the priesthood at 26 years of age at Ouagadougou on May 19, 1946, by Msgr. Joanny Thévénoud M.Afr., he successively named as vicar at Koupéla; parish priest at Tenkodogo; founding parish priest and curate of Ouargaye in 1954; curate of Pabré in 1956; aumônier des voltaïques émigrés en Côte d'Ivoire from 1960 till 1962; curate of the Kologh-naba parish from 1962; and curate of the Mission Saint-Michel de Koléa of Conakry in 1967.

Aged 49, Guirma was appointed as the First Bishop of the newly erected Diocese of Kaya, receiving his episcopal consecration at Kampala, Uganda, from Pope Paul VI, assisted by Cardinals Sergio Pignedoli and Emmanuel Kiwanuka Nsubuga, on August 1, 1969.

Taking possession of his see on the following November 9, the Bishop retired from the pastoral government of his see at 76 years of age on March 9, 1996, and was succeeded by Msgr. Jean-Baptiste Tiendrebeogo.

Bishop Guirma passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010, at 9.15 am., in Ouagadougou, aged 90. His remains were laid out in state at the Cathédrale de l'Immaculée Conception of Ouagadougou, from where they were transferred to the Cathedral of Kaya, where solemn funeral Mass was celebrated in the morning of Tuesday, August 10. Internment followed inside the named Cathedral of Kaya at the end of the Requiem Mass, in a specially constructed vault, near the vault which houses the remains of his successor, Msgr. Tiendrebeogo.
