A professed member of the Chanoines Réguliers de l'Ordre de la Sainte Croix, Province of the Bondo Martyrs, Diocese of Butembo, Congo, Father Erasme Musondolya Manzekele was born in Malende in the Democratic Republic of Congo on March 4, 1975, and was baptized at the Cathedral of Butembo.
Joining the Pères Croisiers, he professed his first vows at Mulo on September 14, 2001, and his solemn vows again at Mulo on September 14, 2007. There, he was ordained to the priesthood on June 11, 2009.
After finishing his studies at the Institut Saint Eugène de Mazenod of Kinshasa, he was asked to serve the Institute community as economist. He also rendered services at the Centre Mboka Bolingani.
Stricken by severe abdominal pains in April 2010, Father Erasme underwent tests at the Monkole Hospital, the Nganda Clinic and at the Ngaliema Clinics. Tumor was diagnosed and he underwent biopsy.
He passed away at the Hôpital Général de Matanda, Butembo, on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at 15.05 pm., aged 35.
Funeral Mass, presided by Monsignor Melchisedec Sikuli Paluku, Bishop of the Diocese of Butembo-Beni, was celebrated at the parish church of Musienene, on Wednesday, July 21, followed by interment in the parish grounds.
