by Linda Erbele

A 62-year-old Sautee Nacoochee woman died in a fire at her home on Joe Black Road near Pilgrim Drive on Saturday night, Nov. 24, according to White County coroner Ricky Barrett.

Joanie Menten was found by firefighters, who had been called to the scene about 10:30 p.m.

"They were called by a neighbor, who said someone was in the home because the vehicle was out front," said Ana Newberry, spokesperson for the White County Fire Department.

White County Fire Chief Dickie Howard said that when he arrived, the fire was fully involved, as was the vehicle.

Barrett said the body has been sent to the state crime lab and that the White County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Newberry said that both the state and county fire investigators are working to determine a cause of the fire. She said the house was an approximately 900-square-foot cabin.
