Magician, Entertainer. Born in Denmark, Jansen came to the United States to pursue a career as a magician. In 1922, Jansen was hired by Howard Thurston, who, at this time, was the premier magician. It would be Thurston who came up with Jansen's world famous stage name, Dante the Magician. After Thurston's death in 1936, Jansen would inherit the title as the world's premier magician, which he held until his death. Over the rest of his life, Jansen, as Dante, would make several world tours and make a couple movie appearances, which included Laurel and Hardy's "A-Haunting We Will Go" (1942) and "Bunco Squad" (1953), both times playing himself. After his death in 1955, his ashes were originally kept in Southern, California until 2004, when the Dante Memorial Fund raised enough money to have his and his wife's ashes moved and interred at the San Francisco Columbarium.
