Ms Coggin was born November 20, 1955 in Winston Salem, NC to Dr James D. and the late Margaret Fales Coggin.
Ms Coggin received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from George Mason University in 1982. She was employed at the National Stone Association (NSA), 1982- 1988, American Public Transportation Association (APTA)1988 - 2003, Federal Public Defender 2006 and the Commonwealth of Virginia''s Indigent Defense 2003- 2005 and 2007- 2009. She worked as Political Action Committee manager, media relations liaison and lobbyist for both NSA and APTA. Ms. Coggin served as Director of Governmental Affairs at NSA and APTA. She left APTA as Director of Communications to pursue a private investigation career. In 2005 she became president and owner of Wellington Investigations, Inc.. Amy also represented the Fairfax County Federation of Civic Associations on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board in Fairfax County. During the past six years, she investigated felonies for the Indigent Defense Commission and the Federal Public Defender. Providing competent investigation for defense attorneys bolstering support toward a fair trial for indigent clients was her goal. She left Virginia Indigent Defense as senior investigator. Ms Coggin was qualified using 9mm,.38 cal handguns and shotguns. She was also expert finding quality and designer shoe sales, locally, nationally and internationally.
Amy is survived by her husband, James R Davis, of Mt Vernon, VA, sister, Vicky Coggin Long, and Lee Geier of Woodstock, NH and Dr. James D. and Maude Y. Coggin of Danville, VA . A memorial service will be held in the Fairfax County Courthouse, 4100 Chain Bridge Rd, Fairfax, VA on September 3, 2009 at 3 p.m.
