Frances was the daughter of John Thompson & Katherine Peters and the granddaughter of John & Frances Simms Peters.

She married George C. Bailey on 10 Nov 1814, in a section of Virginia that is now Monroe county, West Virginia. George served in the Virginia Militia in 1815.

She was the mother of confederate soldiers, one of which died at Richmond, Virginia, and one at the POW prison in Maryland. Her son Thompson was wounded at Winchester, and she lost her daughter-in-law (Mary Fain Bailey) between 1863 and 1866. Her sons in law were prominent in the early church associations, county politics, & the farming of many acres of the area.
Several of her grandchildren died before the civil war. By the 1870 census, George had passed away and Frances was in the household of her daughter Catherine and son in law Irvan Hall Bailey. Frances still had not received any of the widow's pension that she applied for, as late as October of 1872 when she was 75 years old. Though she cited the land warrant George received from his service, had attorneys write letters to the pension office on her behalf, and had her neighbors witness her statements and signature; her claim was denied for insufficient service even though she said her husband served the required sixty days.

*The death record gives her age as 84y,6m,16d inf/C Walker, son in law (I believe this to be Council Walker).
Her parents are written in on this entry, too.
