Gertrude was the daughter of William Henry Wolfe and Elizabeth Ann Menear Wolfe, of Preston county, and was a life resident.
The minister J.J. White married Gertie and Arnold James McGinnis on 31 March 1900, at Tunnelton.
Gertie, as she was called by her family, was a woman of great personal courage and remarkable fortitude.
She never remarried after ending her marriage to Arnold. Unfailingly patriotic, she lived simply and without luxury in her little home of unadorned wooden boards. Colorful flowers in the yard were the only hint of frivolity. She looks grave in most of the photographs taken, posed very seriously. Catching her smile on film was difficult. She had a sense of humor and a twinkling eye she bestowed on her dearly beloved family. Granny was equally proficient with rifle or fishing pole; quite capable of killing, dressing, and cooking fine meals. Her unique cookies were wonderful, a favorite of her descendants, and nearly impossible to duplicate.
A Daughter of America and member of the Tunnelton Methodist Church, she believed in decency and respect for others.*
