JOSEPH COLETTI, 74, A BOSTON SCULPTOR

BOSTON, May 6—Joseph A. Coletti, sculptor and former chairman of the Massachusetts State Art Commission, died last night at his home here. He was 74 years old.
Mr. Coletti, born in San Donato, Italy, was brought here as a child and first learned stone‐cutting from his father. After assisting the painter John Singer Sargent with sculptured sections of the ceiling in the Public Library and Museum of Fine Arts here, was urged by the artlist to study at Harvard University. Harvard's Fogg Museum awarded him a traveling, fellowing in 1923, and in 1924 he studied at the American Academy in Rome.
On his return he received many commissions for sculpture in churches and public institutions in the United States and abroad. He was awarded the Henry Hering medal of the National Sculpture Society for work in the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption in Baltimore. A collection of 178 photographs of selected works, “The Sculpture of Joseph Coletti,” was published in 1968.
