— SHAMOKIN DAM — Dennis N. Benfer, 70, of Sunbury, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Sunbury Community Hospital.

He was born in Watsontown on Sept. 19, 1943, a son of the late James and Clara (Dunn) Benfer.

Dennis was a 1961 graduate of Watsontown High School and worked for Silver Tip Metal in Lewisburg until he retired in June 2011.

He also formerly worked for Chef Boy-Ar-Dee in Milton and was a farmer with his brother.

Dennis was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Northumberland.

He loved riding his Harley motorcycle and traveling with his friends on bikes. He enjoyed his job and the guys he worked with, especially going to the hunting cabin with them.

Dennis was a loving father, husband and friend. He will live in the hearts and minds of his family and friends forever.

On July 3, 1999, he married the former Laura E. Haupt, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Lisa and husband Jim Tallman, of Norfolk, Va., Barbie Patterson, of Hoschton, Ga., Nicole Donnelly and Russell Stahlnecker, of Turbotville, Tony and wife Imelda Marks, of Lexington Park., Md., and Robert and wife Jill O'Neal, of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren Sara, Samantha, Jaimie, Tom, Karina, Kristian, Gage, Chase and Evan; nieces; nephews; and his beloved dog, Gracie.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Peggy Wise; second wife, Mary Jane Berkheimer; three brothers, Wayne W., Ivan G. and Eugene Benfer; one nephew, Raymond W.N. Benfer; and his dog, Katie, his friend and tag-along.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Grace Lutheran Church, 2190 Point Township Drive, Northumberland, with the Rev. Pat Pittsnogle officiating.

Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dennis' memory may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 2190 Point Township Drive., Northumberland, PA 17857, or Mostly Mutts, 284 Little Mountain Road, Sunbury, PA 17801.

Arrangements are being handled by the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury.
