William “Jack” Marshall, 73, of Watsontown, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at his home.

Born October 21, 1942 in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Robert Dewey and Helen (Springer) Marshall. On June 29, 1967 he married the former Judy M. Bartlett and they have celebrated nearly 49 years of marriage.

He was a 1961 graduate of Warrior Run High School and served in the US Navy from 1961 to 1963 on the USS Harwood DD8-61. He was awarded his Associates Degree in Industrial Technology in 1972 from the former Williamsport Area Community College, now Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Jack was employed at West Pharmaceuticals for 47 years, retiring as a supervisor.

He was a former member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Dewart where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Secretary and taught Sunday school for over ten years. Currently he was a member of Watsontown United Methodist Church, having taught Sunday school there for over 20 years. He was a Lay Leader and Certified Lay Servant at his church, a member of the choir, involved with Special Needs Dance, Sheppard’s Kitchen, Kid’s Café, and was actively involved with the building of the new church and parsonage on Eighth Street Drive.

Jack was a former Vice President of Watsontown Little League and Manager for 8 years; served as a Watsontown Borough Councilman for 8 years; and a member of the Watsontown Lions Club.

He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and fishing. Jack’s entire life was devoted to service and helping others. He felt tremendous happiness when he dared to hope that his example could inspire others. He gave life his all. He loved his faith, and his faith drove him to love others. He passed away peacefully and with dignity at home. Weak in body, but stronger than ever in spirit. His favorite quote and one he lived by was “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth”.

Surviving are his wife, Judy M. Marshall; a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie A. and Michael Hontz, Watsontown; two grandchildren, Justin and Taylor Hontz; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Marshall.
