Havva Makbule (Besen) was my maternal grandmother's mother. She born at Besiktas, Istanbul, Turkey. Her father's name is unknown, but her mother's name was Aliye, from Gonen, Turkey. She married Ahmed Fazli (Temizer). Havva had been married previously to a Navy officer who had died at sea while serving in the Turkish Navy. Havva's entire family was Navy military. Her first husband is reported to have died during ser vice in the navy after one week of marriage to Havva, during WWI. Havva died of tuberculosis when their two daughters, Vuslat Suzan and Nedret, were very young.
