BORGER - William W. "Bill" Cornelius, 76, died Thursday, April 8, 2010.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church of Borger with the Rev. Johnny Robertson, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Bill was born June 13, 1933, in Hobbs, N.M., to Fannie and Bill Bearden. He attended Frank Phillips College, where he played on the Plainsmen Basketball Team. He was honored as the All-Around Athlete and graduated from Frank Phillips College in 1952. He served in Korea with the U.S. Army.

Bill married Cindy on Nov. 4, 1978. He was a Texas Highway patrolman and worked for Borger Redi-Mix, Borger Sand and Gravel, and was general superintendent with E.D. Baker Co.

After his retirement, Bill was a bus driver for the Spring Creek Independent School District. He had served on the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents since 2000. He was a member of the Canadian River Gun Club and Lake Meredith Gun Club.

Bill and Cindy are members of First United Methodist Church of Borger.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Francis Cornelius; his father, Bill Bearden; a brother, Mike Cornelius; and a grandson, Cory Lopez.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Cornelius; two daughters, Debbie and husband Steve Peters and Michaelyn and Mike Meyers; a sister, Sharlene Fowler; a son, Craig Cornelius; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Bill Cornelius Memorial Scholarship Fund at Frank Phillips College, P.O. Box 5118, Borger, TX 79007.
