Funeral services for Lloyd R. Booth, 75, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Alton Fannin and the Revs. Monty Baggett, Wayne Merritt and Thomas W. Wilson. Burial will be at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas.

Mr. Booth, son of the late John H. and Etta Bird Booth, died here Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, after an extended illness. Born March 3, 1923, at Ennis, Texas, he had lived in Ardmore 31 years.

He and Mary Bowen were married Dec. 4, 1960, at Arlington, Texas.

A sergeant in the Air Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II, he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. Upon his return from military service, he began a career in law enforcement that saw him serve with the Dallas County Sheriff's Department, Fort Worth Police Department and U.S. Federal Marshalls Service. He also served with the Ardmore Police Department and Carter County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 1980.

A member of First Baptist Church and Worth Sunday school class, he was a 32nd Degree Mason in Lodge No. 31, AF & AM, of the Scottish Rite, was a member of India Temple Shrine and Ardmore Shrine Club. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans and Fraternal Order of Police.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Sherry Booth, Allen, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Jerrold Chronister, Ardmore; daughters-in-law, Phyllis Booth, Grand Prairie, Texas, and Ellen Booth, Forney, Texas; grandchildren and spouses, Joe and Teresa Hernandez, Rowlett, Texas, John and Rhonda Moreland, Allen, Texas, Cary and Mollie Booth, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Terry and Retta Carr, Allen, Texas, and Jeremiah Booth Webb, Ardmore; his mother-in-law, Louise Bowen, of the home; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Johnny Lloyd Booth, Roger Ray Booth and Terry Lee Lightsey.

Serving as bearers will be Ed Burton, Gene Thompson, Lennis McClennen, Tony Simon, John Setter and Harold Rutherford. Honorary bearers include D. Michael Hisey, Johnny Norman; physicians Kevin Reed, Douglas Foster, Scott Dempewolf, Michael McCormick and David Gores; the Worth Sunday school class, Carter County, Dallas and Fort Worth law enforcement agencies.

Memorials may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice or a charity of choice.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
