Iranian Royalty. A society figure and sometime model, she was the youngest daughter of the last Shah of Iran and his third wife. Though she had little real relationship with her parents she was raised amidst massive wealth and privilege until forced to flee her native land by the Revolution in 1979. Moving to the United States with her family after her father died in 1980, she was educated at the Rye Country Day School, graduated from Brown University in 1992, worked as a fashion model for Valentino, and continued to use her royal title. For most her adult life Princess Leila commuted between homes in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Paris while suffering from depression, anorexia nervosa, and a drug habit that she was rumoured, despite her riches, to have stolen to support. A resident of the upscale Leonard Hotel over her final year, she was found dead in her suite, the victim of accumulated health problems and an apparent accidental barbiturate overdose.
